5 Ways to Create a Cosy Home for Winter
Humans can't actually hibernate. But if anyone could, it would be us. As far as we're concerned, winter is a time to hide away and be snug in front of a flickering, crackling fire all day. If you're like us, then here are 5 easy ways to cosy up your home for winter.

Feng Shui Your Bedroom
We spend a lot of time in our bedrooms, especially in winter. You know what they say, if you're not obsessed with your bedroom, you should be obsessed with changing it. Enter feng shui. The goal of the ancient Chinese practice is to invite positive energy (or chi) into your living spaces. In feng shui philosophy, the bedroom is the most important room of the home. Making feng shui shifts can improve the quality of your sleep - we're talking not only about more zzzs, but also about sleep that's deep and restorative.
Here are some simple ways to inspire good vibes in your bedroom:
  • Switch up the layout. Position your bed away from the door, but so you can see the entrance when you're lying in it.
  • Provide a feeling of support with a headboard made of fabric or solid wood.
  • Furnish your room for two: 2 pillows, 2 nightstands, and 2 lamps promotes a sense of balance.
  • Evoke the senses. Use essential oils, soft fabrics (Egyptian cotton, velvet, and satin), earth tones, and fiery accents.
  • Hide electronics. Technology gives off a lot of energy, so why not remove all electronics?
  • Clear clutter. Clutter blocks the flow of positive energy, so it's important to clear out your bedroom.
Create the Perfect Reading Nook
Let's be honest: When last did you crack open a book? Gosh, has it been that long? (Who are we kidding, we're in a relationship with Netflix.) Well, we think we have something that can help. A reading nook is a quiet place for reading a book (or a magazine or Kindle). Beyond that, it can be whatever you want it to be!
Depending on the size of your space, a reading nook can be a quiet corner or a whole room. Book nook essentials include:
  • A comfy chair
  • Plenty of pillows
  • A warm throw
  • A good light to read by
  • All the books
  • A small stool for a hot cup of something (more on that later)
Get a Fire Going
Happiness is... a lit fireplace in winter. Sitting by the fire gives us a warm, fuzzy feeling inside. You too? Research shows that our relaxing response to the light, sound, and smell of fire is evolutionary. Watching a fire can even decrease your blood pressure and make you more sociable. If you're lucky enough to have a fireplace, then keep your materials ready to build a fire perfectly. 

Up Your Board Game Game
Board games aren't just for kids, nerds, or family vacations. And trust us, they've come a long way since Monopoly. One thing's for sure: Board games make rainy days more bearable.
